Beginnings

Hello!!

I thought it would make sense if my first post talked about beginnings.

We all have been afraid when we started something new, and that can include counseling. What will they ask me? What if they ask me to share difficult experiences and feelings? What if it’s overwhelming? What if I share too much? What if I don’t share enough? What if I don’t know the answer to something or how to handle a situation?

These are all valid questions. You should never be forced to do something you don't want to do. It also can be difficult to work through difficult emotions. These are all things that should definitely be discussed with your therapist. Starting something new, like therapy, can feel scary. For some, it can also feel hopeful. Whatever your thinking about, I can assure you that you are not alone in having these feelings. I don’t have all the answers or solutions, but I do have tools and perspectives that others have found helpful.

There are lots of people out there smarter than me and I like to learn from them. There is a James Baldwin quote that I really like to think about whenever I start to feel afraid to tackle anything: “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

What does that mean to you? What do you take from this quote? Does it give you hope or energy?

My name is Nicole and I specialize in helping people with anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, and burnout. I also know a thing or two about cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness and how the mind and body work together to impact us.
